Member Training Report

This year offers us many opportunities and challenges. It is still uncertain which, if any, workshops will be made mandatory by 7th District. The material for the Instructor Workshop, The Vessel Examiner Workshop and the Partner Visitor Workshop have been developed and disseminated by national.
Changes in the requirements for maintaining qualification in Boat Crew and Coxswain are still in a semi-transitional state. Two things are certain. The new TCT refresher is required of all who have operational qualifications. The material for that refresher is available. The second thing is that all coxswain candidates have to take a proctored exam on material from the Operations Manual.
The requirement for Annual Currency Maintenance has been rescinded and the number of required annual operational hours has been raised from eight to twelve. Supposedly coxswains will he credit for all hours on the water regardless of whether or not they are the coxswain of record. The mechanics of this are still being worked out.
With the advent of Flotilla 12-12 in on Edisto Island, we have many opportunities to assist in training to bring their people up to speed. I have been in contact with their FSO-MT and he is really anxious to get a training program underway.
I am hoping to schedule some specialty course classes for the benefit of both 12-8 and 12-12. Watch this space and the calendar on this site for information on classes.
